Life Insurance – Why you should have it

July 20, 2017

For this blog entry, we wanted to reach out to those of you who don’t have life insurance, and don’t think you need it. If you are younger, you probably think (like most young people do) that you are fairly invincible and won’t die for a long time so what’s the point? Or, we have heard the idea of, “who cares what happens after I die, I won’t be around anyways!” Or maybe you are somewhere in between those two thought processes and would like some more information.

Let’s start off with the first idea, the “I’m young and invincible” thought process. Hopefully, you are right and have a long, happy, healthy life ahead of you! This is the PERFECT time to start a life insurance policy! Young and healthy means less in premium to pay, but that’s not the most important aspect of what a life insurance policy can do for you. When most people think of life insurance, they think of term life insurance that lasts a specific amount of time (anywhere from 10-30 years) then if you die, your beneficiaries receive the death benefits in the form of a tax free cash payout. However, there are life insurance policies available that actually build up cash value during your life span, and you can take funds from these plans as you get older. The funds are not only available as a death benefit to your loved ones, but they are available to you as a living benefit to help with income as you get older! How awesome is that? Why not get a head start planning for your future now? It doesn’t cost too much and you won’t regret it when you get older.

Now to the other end of the spectrum, the “I don’t care” attitude. All too often you hear stories of families where one spouse dies unexpectedly and, because no one was planning for this, the surviving spouse (and possibly children) are left scrambling with what to do. Not only is there the process of trying to plan an unexpected funeral, which can cost a lot of money, but also trying to figure out what to do for money. There is a mortgage to pay, car payments, credit cards, cable bills, water, sewer, electric, trash, countless other bills, including food budgets, clothes, and everything else that goes into our daily lives that we don’t think about all that much. So, then houses are sold, kids are moved to different schools, and life gets very hard for the surviving spouse and family. If you wouldn’t like to be left in this situation, why would you do that very thing to your loved ones?

For everyone in the in-between category. Life Insurance is simply a great “last gift” to give your family after you pass, ensuring that there aren’t too many hardships placed on them after you are gone. You will allow your family to be able to grieve your loss, without worrying about financial issues which can be so stressful that people just completely shut down. It really can be a life saver for you and your family.

So please, start the conversation with your loved ones and give us a call to help. Whether you are looking for income later in life, or want to ensure your family doesn’t go into financial ruin after you are gone, we can help point you in the right direction and find a policy that works best for you and your loved ones.
